MOUNT MORRIS – A Manhattan man, wanted in multiple states, is facing several charges after fleeing a traffic stop and leading police on chases in three area counties before being captured in Steuben County and jailed in Livingston County.
At least four law enforcement agencies were involved in the incident which began when Tequan T. Robinson, 22, fled the scene of a traffic stop in Wyoming County on March 20.
Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of State Route 20A in the town of Leicester to assist Wyoming County Sheriff’s deputies in locating the vehicle when the suspect vehicle was located traveling south on Main Street in the village of Mount Morris at high speeds.
Deputies pursued the vehicle briefly, but terminated the pursuit due to public safety concerns related to the high speeds and reckless operation of the suspect vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The vehicle reportedly struck another vehicle while traveling south on Sonyea Road in the town of Mount Morris after deputies had terminated the pursuit, the Sheriff’s Office said.
A short time later, the Livingston County Emergency Communications Center received multiple civilian calls reporting the suspect vehicle to be operating recklessly while travel south on Interstate 390 in the town of North Dansville.
Dansville Police assisted with attempting to stop the vehicle on the interstate, but ended the attempt in the area of the Livingston-Steuben county line due to high speeds and the suspect’s reckless operation of the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The vehicle was later located roadside on Interstate 86 by members of State Police in Painted Post.
Robinson, who was identified as the operator of the vehicle, was wanted in multiple states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida, the Sheriff’s Office said.
A records check further revealed that Robinson’s driving privileges in New York had been suspended four times, including three scoffs on two separate dates, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Robinson was returned to Livingston County and turned over to Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies. He was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony; third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; and additional violations of state Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Robinson was turned over to Central Booking deputies at Livingston County Jail for processing pre-arraignment detention. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office requested that Robinson be held without bail due to Robinson having had three prior felony convictions.
Robinson was later arraigned at Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at Livingston County Jail before Village of Geneseo Justice Thomas Bushnell, who remanded Robinson to the custody of the Sheriff without possibility of bail.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Robinson at his arraignment. The District Attorney’s Office did not appear at the arraignment.
